The time-honoured method is to cover the edges with binding, strips of fabric sewn to the front, wrapped over to the back and stitched in place. Binding provides a clean edge that resists wear. The binding fabric can blend with the quilt top or contrast for an added design detail. Single and Double Binding
A contemporary way to finish the edges of your quilt is to wrap the binding completely to the back. Only the quilt top itself shows from the front. You gain the clean look but lose the protection of a traditional binding against wear. Invisible Binding
